During your High School years there will be many decisions for you to make, including:
- Course selection from your high school curriculum. You need to take courses that will help you later, not the easy way out, as life will not always be easy!
- Mastery of good study habits. This will be an asset, not only in high school, but also in college.
- Registration and participation in college entrance test. Sophomores and Juniors should take the PSAT, which is offered every October at all high schools. Students need to begin taking ACT and SAT tests early. Do not wait until your senior year.
- Selection of and application to a variety of universities and colleges. Remember that "If there is a will, there is a way!" Select a school with a good reputation in your field of interest, not just one with a winning football team. Do not overlook out of state schools.
As a teacher, I have successfully conducted numerous SAT and ACT preperation workshops since 1988 in Gulf Breeze, Fort Walton Beach, Niceville, New Orleans, Houston, San Diego, etc. In addition to the workshops, I have tutored many wonderful students from the Florida panhandle and other areas including Texas, Alabama, Louisiana, California, Iowa, South Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, and Mississippi.
It has been very exciting and rewarding to meet and assist middle school and high school students who are preparing for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests. I have also tutored college students preparing to take the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and the Marine / Navy Aviation Selection Test.
Individual tutoring has included high school courses in Math, English, history, and science courses.
I believe it is very important for students to set goals, have strong study habits, and organizational skills. Most of all, they need to have a positive attitude and a strong belief in themselves. |
